McGuire Leading the 7th District Nomination as Path to Victory Becomes More Apparent

Henrico, VA– After announcing a major win in Henrico yesterday, Navy SEAL and Republican candidate for Congress John McGuire’s path to win the 7th Congressional District Republican nomination in the upcoming district convention is becoming clear. Outside of Henrico, McGuire had major victories in Louisa and Goochland, and is extremely competitive in Chesterfield based on the filings for each county. Simply put, a clear path to victory has begun to solidify for McGuire to win the nomination.

“Together, we’ve built a campaign that has resonated with voters across the 7th district,” McGuire said, “and these victories clearly show that I have the ability to win, not just in the suburbs, but also in the all-important rural areas of Virginia as well.”

McGuire has twice been elected to the House of Delegates in Virginia’s 56th district. The district spreads from the suburbs of Henrico and stretches into more rural areas in counties that are in the heart of the 7th district. In 2019 McGuire had the 2nd largest Republican victory and won in suburban precincts that Dave Brat lost in 2018.

In 2018, Spanberger was able to defeat Brat by winning these important suburban precincts. Over the past two elections for the state House, however, McGuire has proven that he can be successful in these precincts while also energizing voters in the rural areas of the district.

“We’ve had great success all across the 7th district. Our delegates who have pre-filed with us are excited to participate in this process and move this campaign through the nomination and on to defeat Spanberger this fall,” McGuire continued, “7th district voters know that to win in the fall they need a conservative candidate who can compete in every part of this district. I’ve proven that I’m that candidate.”

John McGuire is a current Delegate representing the 56th district of Virginia, which includes the counties of Goochland, Louisa and parts of Henrico and Spotsylvania. A former Navy SEAL who served for 10 years, John is now the owner of a small fitness company called SEAL Team PT Inc. John and his wife Tracy live in Goochland County. They have five children. John became a top contender in this race after posting a strong fundraising performance last quarter and continues to display a successful campaign.
